Successful annual 10k paddle kayaking event

Over 100 kayakers took part in a 10k paddle kayaking event which took participants down the River Shannon from UL Boathouse to the pier on O'Callaghan Strand. The weather was generally kind with only a few spot showers during this wonderful event

The very successful annual 10k  kayaking event took place again this year, on Saturday, 17th August. Organised by Limerick Academy and Scouts Kayaking club in conjunction with Canoeing Ireland, over 100 kayakers took to the water and travelled down the River Shannon to the pier on O’Callaghan Strand.

We were delighted to bring on board some main sponsors this including Kemp, Irish Cement with support from Keating Fabrication and Lantel Communications. The event also saw kayakers enter as part of a ‘Wellness on the Water’ festival in Limerick.

The Limerick Civil Defence were in attendance and arranged a foot patrol with the kayakers down the river – participants ranged from 7 years of age up to 70. There were a number of experienced instructors from kayaking and scouting world who guided the participants down the water safely.  Food was supplied by Kemp, Shane Gleeson and Pandora Bell Confectionary. Ishka donated water for the event and we availed of the re-usable cup scheme from Limerick City Council. Thanks to Nancy Geary and Ken Dunne who took photos and drone footage

100% of the proceeds stay locally here in the Midwest. Thank you to those who took part. A full album of photos is available on our Facebook page.
